Bu çalışmanın amacı, dünyada son yıllarda artan turist sayısı ile başlayan, günümüzde devam eden ve gelecekte çok ciddi bir risk olarak krizlere neden olabileceği tartışılan aşırı turizm overtourism konusuna dikkat çekmektir. Bu çerçevede kültür ve mirasa yönelik tehditler çalışmanın kapsamını oluşturmaktadır. Aynı raporda dünyada aşırı turizm konusunda başı çeken 68 şehir listelenmiş ve bu şehirlerin içinde İstanbul ve Antalya illeri de yer almıştır. Sosyal, kültürel ve tarihi değerlerin bozulması ve yok olması konuları üzerinde gittikçe büyüyen bir sorun olarak durulmaktadır. Aşırı turizmin neden olduğu sorunların uluslararası alanda olduğu gibi ulusal düzeyde de başarıyla yönetilmesi gerektirmektedir. Maddi ve manevi değerlerin korunması için yapılması gerekenlerin her bir ayrıntısı önemsenmelidir. Bu nedenlerle gerçekleştirilen araştırma ikincil kaynaklardan yararlanılarak gerçekleştirilmiş nitel bir tarama çalışmasıdır. Araştırma neticesinde, aşırı turizmin gelecekte yönetimlerin öncelikli konuları arasında kalıcı olarak yer alacağı söylenebilir. Türkiye geneli, bölgeler, iller, ilçeler, beldeler ve köylerin taşıma kapasitelerinin belirlenmesi, yönetilmesi, kontrol edilmesi ve yükseltilmesi için yapılması gerekenler konusunda mevcut politikalar gözden geçirilmelidir. Turizm sektörü ile ilgili tüm taraflar aşırı turizm sorununa, sosyal, kültürel ve tarihi değerler perspektifinden yaklaşarak orta ve uzun vadeli yenilikçi adımlar atmalıdırlar. This study aims at drawing attention to the issue of overtourism, which has arisen due to the recent increase in the number of tourists in the world and has continued till present time and which is likely to lead to severe crises in the future. With this aim in mind, the study focuses particularly on the threats which overtourism poses to culture and heritage. It is a fact that the most tourist-receiving and tourist-sending countries are facing certain challenges, as well as enjoying various advantages of tourism. In the Coping with Success, Managing Overcrowding in Tourism Destinations December report prepared by McKinsey and World Travel and Tourism Council, these challenges are grouped under five titles as alienated local residents, degraded tourist experience, overloaded infrastructure, damage to nature, and threats to culture and heritage. The same report presents the heatmap of 68 cities and İstanbul and Antalya are also included in the list. Regarding the regions of Turkey, in all the regions, with the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Marmara regions being in the first place, the number of tourism destinations which are facing problems associated with overtourism are increasing, especially during certain periods tourism season, religious holidays, and public holidays. Deterioration and loss of social, cultural, and historical values are seen as ever-increasing problems.
